FAQs

What does the ‘R’ and ‘W’ stand for in RW Cleaning Services?

Two fold. R is for Russell and W is for Wilts which is one of Chris’s nicknames. Originally it was a nod to his Dad Roger who gave him £3000 to start a business.

How far do you travel?

We’re based in Southampton and don’t generally travel further than Salisbury, Bournemouth, or Portsmouth. We might be prepared to travel further but ultimately the bigger the distance, the bigger the cost. So you’d probably be better off finding somebody local.

Do I get a discount for my friends/family/neighbours?

Possibly. We only ever charge as much as we feel the need to for the time and effort involved in a job. If we can do more work from a single spot without moving the van, we’ll often adjust the prices for all the customers in that area.

How do I know when you’re coming, how do I pay and do I need to be there?

We always inform our customers, usually the day before via text when we’re coming. You can pay by bank transfer, cash, cheque or PayPal. You don’t need to be there unless there is no other way for us to access. In this case we would give a time slot. Most customers just unlock the gate for us as they know we’re coming.

Do you replace broken tiles?

Unfortunately the process of removing moss can uncover damages to your roof that you may not have been aware of. As we don’t go on the roof ourselves we cannot take responsibility for this but always inform customers of any area we think could cause a problem. Simply put, the issue was already there and it’s better to know and have an experienced roofer take a look when we’re finished. Rest assured if we ever accidentally damaged any of your property, we would tell you. No expense is worse to us than a dissatisfied customer. Of course if you have some spare tiles and it’s in a place we can easily reach, we’re happy to pop them in for you if we can.

What do you do with all the moss etc from roofs and gutters?

Well it’s good stuff and we often give it to friends for their allotment! If you have a a compost heap or an area we can discreetly scatter it, please let us know. It can be costly and unnecessary to dispose of as trade waste.

Can the chemicals you use go into surface drains and are they safe for my plants/animals/children?

We only use certified biodegradable chemicals in the correct proportions to keep you, the environment and ourselves safe. We will always take precautions to protect plant life and warn you to keep animals/children away if necessary. In some instances we will disconnect downpipes and divert into waste drains. Most times the biocide application on a roof will be foamy and soaks into the tiles quickly. There will be very little run off.

How do you know the gutters are clear without looking?

Super Magical X Ray Laser Powers! You can feel it. When the gutters are clear, the nozzle slides along easily and you can hear that no more debris is being sucked away. For downpipes, the nozzle will reach in to the bend and suck loudly at any blockages. Most of the time if a down pipe is blocked you will find standing water which clears immediately after. If we’re ever in doubt we will unblock by hand from a ladder, run some water through or use our camera to check it’s clear. Of course if you continue to have problems after we’ve been, let us know ASAP and we’ll come back. We will ask you to make us aware of any leaky areas in advance.

Do you need a power or water supply?

No. We have a petrol generator that powers the vacuum and an 800 litre water tank in each van.

Do you do inside conservatory roofs and windows?

We used to but have suspended this service for now. During the Covid 19 pandemic we were forced to downsize our business and couldn’t enter customers’ houses. We now feel this is best practice for us going forward as it falls under other domestic house cleaner type services that we don’t offer. We do however have some commercial office blocks that still have their windows cleaned internally.
